The new head of Britain's MI6 intelligence service has warned that Russia is conducting hostile campaigns against the West that stop just short of all-out war.
In her first public speech, Chief Blaise Metreweli stated that Moscow is using cyberattacks and targeted disinformation to weaken democracies. She described these actions as a "threshold war," meaning they are designed to cause damage without triggering a full military response.
Metreweli pledged that the United Kingdom would continue its strong support for Ukraine. She emphasized that countering these covert threats is a major priority for her agency.
The speech marks a rare public commentary from the leader of the secretive intelligence service. It clearly outlines the UK's view of the ongoing geopolitical conflict with Russia.
