Scientists are considering a new way to protect nature: using burial grounds as conservation areas.
The idea appears in Science, Volume 393, Issue 6816, published in September 2026.
Burial grounds are often left undisturbed for long periods. This makes them possible safe places for plants and animals.
Researchers say these sites could help support conservation efforts. The proposal is still under discussion.
