Chinese President Xi Jinping received a red-carpet welcome in Delhi on Friday for a summit of Brics developing nations. His arrival is seen as a step towards reconciliation between India and China, which fought a deadly military clash in 2020. The two regional rivals are publicly showing warmer relations. At the same time, they are quietly competing to lead at a moment when US global dominance looks shaky. As Xi stepped off the plane, he walked past an honour guard of Indian soldiers and traditional dancers in colourful dresses.
