Houthi militants have taken control of two strategic locations on one of the world's busiest shipping routes, according to reports.
The group now holds the port city of Mokha and Perim Island, which sits in the narrow Bab al-Mandab Strait — the gateway between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The strait is a vital waterway for global trade, and the takeover tightens the Houthis' grip on shipping traffic passing through it.
