Marcos to Make History at Brics Summit
President Ferdinand Marcos Jnr will become the first Philippine leader to attend a Brics Summit. He travels to New Delhi this weekend. Analysts call the trip a "low-risk opportunity" for the Philippines to build new friendships. Manila is working to diversify its international ties. "The president seeks to ensure that our modern partnerships remain open, resilient and capable of delivering prosperity to our people," said Analyn Ratonel, spokeswoman for the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs. She spoke at a press briefing. Brics is a group of major emerging economies. Its members are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The group has recently invited other nations to join.
