Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi has been hospitalized following what her family calls a "violent arrest."
In a phone call from the hospital, Mohammadi told relatives that plainclothes security agents beat her last week. The attack occurred in the city of Mashhad and targeted her head and neck, she said.
Mohammadi is a prominent human rights activist. She is currently imprisoned for charges including "spreading propaganda" against Iran's ruling system.
The Nobel committee awarded her the peace prize in 2023 for her long-standing campaign against the oppression of women in Iran.
