A new report from BirdLife International warns that about 200 migratory bird species are at risk of extinction. That is nearly half of all migratory bird species worldwide.
Shorebirds and seabirds are losing the most. These birds depend on wetlands, coasts, and open oceans. Many of these habitats are being damaged or destroyed.
The report calls for stronger protection of the routes these birds use during migration. Without action, many species could disappear.
