UK bans goods from Israeli settlements in West Bank
British Foreign Minister Ed Miliband on Tuesday accused the Israeli government of ignoring what he called “ethnic cleansing” by settlers in the West Bank. He told parliament that the UK will impose “an import ban on goods from illegal settlements in the occupied territories,” a step coordinated with other countries. The move is seen as a direct blow to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has failed to control the far-right factions in his government that have encouraged settlement growth, said Jordana Miller, an ABC correspondent in Jerusalem, speaking to France 24. The ban targets products made in Israeli settlements, which are considered illegal under international law.
