Iran announced Sunday that its forces attacked a US naval drone attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz, just hours after Tehran targeted ships in response to American strikes on three oil tankers.
The latest exchange of fire follows US raids last week and marks another escalation in the six-month standoff between the two countries.
Iran continues to control access to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments. Washington, meanwhile, maintains a counter-blockade of Iranian ports and is expanding economic pressure on Tehran, rolling out additional sanctions aimed at cutting off the country’s revenue streams.
