Google's new AI search feature is creating inaccurate recipes by mixing content from different websites. This is causing a major drop in traffic for food bloggers who depend on ad revenue.
The feature, called "AI Mode," began in March. It generates recipe summaries by combining steps from multiple creators. The results are often confusing or wrong. In one case, the AI cited the satirical site The Onion and suggested cooking with non-toxic glue.
For years, bloggers have seen their work repurposed without credit. Their recipes appear in ChatGPT replies and AI-generated cookbooks. Their photos are used on websites and social media that link to these AI-made copies.
This practice is now cutting directly into their income. With Google's AI providing answers directly, fewer people click through to the original recipe websites. Bloggers call the change an "extinction event" for their industry.
