Liberalerna have lost my vote – and their history

A former party activist explains why he can no longer support the Liberal Party in Sweden’s parliamentary election. “What was once a proud People’s Party has sadly left its proud history behind,” writes Ulf Aldener, a former party member, in a letter to the editor. Aldener, who was once active within the party, says this is the reason he will not give the Liberals his vote in the upcoming national election. He does not elaborate further in the submitted text, but his statement reflects a broader disappointment among some long-time supporters. The Liberals, formerly known as Folkpartiet, have undergone significant changes in recent years, both in policy and leadership. For Aldener, those changes appear to be a step away from the party’s roots. His letter is a direct response to a previous submission defending the party’s current direction.
