Drought forces Angolans into Namibia, abuses follow: Amnesty

A new report from Amnesty International reveals that Angolan women and children forced to flee drought into neighboring Namibia are suffering serious human rights abuses. The organization says the root cause is a lack of safe and legal migration routes for people displaced by natural disasters. According to the report, these families cross the border out of necessity, leaving behind failed crops and water shortages. Once in Namibia, they are left without legal status or protection. This gap in the law leaves them exposed to exploitation and violence. Amnesty International is calling on governments to recognize climate-driven displacement and to create legal pathways that protect vulnerable people at every step of their journey.
