The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is leading the polls in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt. However, the state’s current premier, Reiner Schulze, is determined to prevent the party from taking power.
If the AfD wins the upcoming state election, it would become the first far-right party to lead a German state government since the end of World War II. Schulze has made it clear he will fight to stop that from happening.
