Norwegian motorists woke up to significantly higher fuel prices on Tuesday morning, as temporary tax cuts came to an end. At the Esso Sogn station in Oslo, the price for gasoline reached 27.56 kroner per liter, while diesel climbed to 29.25 kroner. According to the price-tracking service Drivstoffprisene.no, which relies on user-submitted data, similar increases have been recorded in several other Norwegian cities. The price hike follows the expiration of a road tax reduction that was introduced by parliament this spring. The cut was designed to ease financial pressure on drivers, but it has now reverted to its normal level. Political parties Senterpartiet and Fremskrittspartiet had pushed to extend the tax break, but they failed to secure enough support in parliament to do so.
