Global investment giant Carlyle Group is making a major move into Japanese healthcare. It has agreed to buy Hogy Medical Co., a leading maker of surgical supplies, for approximately $1 billion.
The deal targets a key player in Japan's growing medical sector. Hogy manufactures single-use surgical gowns, gloves, and other essential products. Its supplies are used in over 80% of Japanese hospitals.
Carlyle sees strong potential. Japan has one of the world's oldest populations, which increases demand for medical procedures. The firm plans to help Hogy expand its product lines and enter new markets overseas.
The acquisition is expected to finalize in the second half of 2024. It highlights increasing foreign investment in Japan's stable healthcare industry. For Carlyle, it is a strategic purchase aimed at long-term growth.
