Nepal’s mud-buried homes: Rescue turns to salvage as scale of disaster emerges

The full extent of the devastation in Nepal is becoming clearer. Beyond the rising death toll and injuries, entire residential buildings, bridges, and roads have been washed away, swallowed by mud, or left under floodwater. In some areas, residents have begun returning to their properties to see what can be recovered.
