A surge in popularity for trendy drinks like matcha lattes, Aperol spritz, and bubble tea is forcing a change in laundry detergents. Manufacturers are now reformulating their products to tackle these modern stains.
In a new survey, Japanese green tea powder, matcha, was named the "stain of the year." It beat other difficult stains from cocktails, makeup, and hot sauces.
The research found that 39% of people struggle with matcha stains. Aperol and other cocktails were close behind at 38%. Bubble tea, protein shakes, and nail polish each caused problems for 35% of people.
This marks a shift from traditional stubborn stains like curry, egg yolk, and red wine. The change reflects new consumption trends, particularly among younger generations.
Laundry detergent companies are adjusting their chemical recipes to better remove these specific, colored residues. The goal is to keep pace with evolving lifestyles and the messes they create.
