Nobel Laureate Missing After Iran Arrest
There has been no contact with Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi since Iranian authorities arrested her last Friday, her support network announced on Sunday. They are demanding her immediate release, along with dozens of others detained with her. Mohammadi, who received the Nobel award in 2023, was taken into custody after speaking at a memorial service. The event was for lawyer Khosrow Alikordi, who was found dead earlier this month in Mashhad. The prosecutor in Mashhad confirmed the arrest. Authorities allege Mohammadi violated Iran's strict laws by not wearing a mandatory headscarf, or hijab, at the gathering. Her supporters state she is being held in a prison in Mashhad. They report that all communication with her has been cut off since her detention.
