A popular Taiwanese bubble tea brand is expanding rapidly in Hong Kong, signaling a shift in the city's retail landscape. Nap Tea, which opened its first store in February, will launch its ninth outlet this month.
The chain's success comes as many high-end luxury brands have reduced their presence in the city. Nap Tea's Mong Kok debut drew long customer queues, a sight once common for luxury goods.
Co-founder Dan Lin said the fast growth of a loyal customer base was a surprise. "Rent is indeed a major challenge in the Hong Kong market," Lin said. "But it proves that as long as the product is strong enough, it can overcome the pressure of high costs."
This trend shows new, mid-market entrants are helping to stabilize retail property rentals. They are filling spaces left by departing luxury giants, providing steady demand for landlords.
