Geely Auto has opened the world's largest vehicle safety testing center, investing 2 billion yuan (US$283.5 million) to improve reliability. This major move comes as the company resists deep discounts in China's intense car market price war.
The new facility reflects a strategic focus on safety over price cuts. Geely is China's second-largest carmaker by sales.
"Safety is our priority," said Jerry Gan Jiayue, CEO of Geely's passenger car division. He stated the investment shows the company's commitment to vehicle quality even during fierce competition.
The launch highlights a different path in China's automotive industry. While many brands slash prices, Geely is emphasizing long-term value and safety features to attract customers.
