A top Chinese venture capitalist says the country's artificial intelligence sector is gaining confidence it can overcome U.S. technology restrictions.
This is largely due to the emergence of powerful domestic AI like DeepSeek, according to Zhou Qi of GSR United Capital. His firm invests in early-stage technology companies.
Zhou stated that China and the U.S. are the two global leaders in AI development. He noted China currently leads in specific areas, including humanoid robotics and open-source large language models.
However, he identified six aspects where China's AI ecosystem still needs improvement. These range from its overall business environment to funding access.
The success of models like DeepSeek is seen as a key proof of concept. It demonstrates the sector's ability to advance despite limited access to certain U.S. chips and software.
