A Hong Kong court has found former media boss Jimmy Lai guilty on all charges in a high-profile national security case. The verdict comes after a trial lasting more than a year and a half.
The 78-year-old founder of the now-closed *Apple Daily* newspaper has been in detention for most of the past five years. He was tried under a national security law imposed by Beijing in 2020.
A panel of three judges handed down the ruling on Monday. They convicted Lai of crimes related to collusion with foreign forces and sedition.
The case is seen as a major test of the sweeping security law. It criminalizes acts of secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with foreign entities.
Sentencing for Lai is expected at a later date.
