José Antonio Kast, an ultra-conservative politician, has been elected president of Chile. He won a decisive victory over leftist candidate Jeannette Jara.
With over 99% of votes counted, Kast received 58.17% of the vote. Jara, a former labour minister, gained 41.83%.
Kast is a former congressman and admirer of former military dictator Augusto Pinochet. His father was a member of the Nazi party in Germany.
A central promise of his campaign was to expel tens of thousands of undocumented migrants from Chile. He will succeed the current left-wing president, Gabriel Boric.
