A fire broke out on an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz early Thursday after the vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The UKMTO, which monitors shipping security, received a report of the incident from local authorities. Emergency teams on board successfully extinguished the fire, and all crew members have been confirmed safe.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil shipments. The cause of the strike remains under investigation, and no group has claimed responsibility.
