A ceasefire brokered by former U.S. President Donald Trump has broken down. Fighting has resumed on the border between Thailand and Cambodia.
Last week, Mr. Trump received a peace prize from FIFA, world football's governing body. The award cited his role in ending several conflicts. These included the Thai-Cambodian border dispute and war in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Mr. Trump claims to have ended eight conflicts.
Now, the truce between Thailand and Cambodia has failed. Renewed fighting has forced half a million people to flee. At least 27 people have been killed, including civilians.
In the DRC, a similar pattern has emerged. A peace deal was signed in Washington just days ago. However, Rwanda-backed M23 rebels have advanced in the east. This new fighting has forced at least 200,000 people to flee their homes.
The renewed violence makes Mr. Trump's claims of achieving lasting peace look shaky.
