A beloved New York City dive bar is facing a final-round fight for survival. Jimmy’s Corner, a cherished institution in Times Square, has been ordered to close by a real-estate developer.
The bar opened in 1971. Its founder was Jimmy Glenn, a former boxer who became a trainer. Since then, Times Square has transformed into a global tourist destination. But Jimmy’s Corner has defiantly stayed the same.
It is known for cheap drinks, friendly local customers, and decades-old photographs on its walls. Some regulars have been visiting for almost 50 years. The furniture and remarkably low prices have also remained unchanged.
Regulars and tourists now fear the bar's closure. "I’m going to be heartbroken. This is a landmark," one customer said. The future of this piece of old New York is now uncertain.
