Swedish PM and Climate Minister Silent as Thousands Protest – “A Failure for Democracy”

Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Climate Minister Romina Pourmokhtari have not responded to Sunday’s large climate demonstration. According to social worker Jenny Green, their silence is “a failure for democracy.” In a letter to the editor, Green challenges the two politicians directly. She says they cannot “talk the issue to death” by staying quiet. “If you continue to be silent and have nothing to say to all of us who demonstrated, it is a failure for democracy,” Green writes. The demonstration drew thousands of protesters demanding clearer climate action. So far, neither Kristersson nor Pourmokhtari has issued a public statement. Green’s message is clear: the government must answer the protesters.
