The United States has issued a warning to countries and companies still doing business with Iran: end those trade ties now, or face American sanctions.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington is giving a clear deadline for all financial and commercial relationships with Tehran to be terminated.
“Our goal is to cut off every economic lifeline to Iran,” Bessent said in a statement.
The move is part of a broader US strategy to isolate Iran financially. The Treasury did not specify how much time will be given, but made clear that non-compliance will result in penalties.
The warning targets both foreign governments and private firms. Any entity found to be trading with Iran, especially in sectors like oil or banking, could be hit with US sanctions.
This latest pressure comes as Washington seeks to increase economic leverage over Tehran. No further details were provided on which countries or companies are currently under review.
