A lone attacker killed 12 people and injured several others in a stabbing attack at a busy shopping center in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday. Police later shot and killed the suspect.
The incident occurred at the Westfield Bondi Junction mall, located near the world-famous Bondi Beach. Panicked shoppers fled the complex as emergency services rushed to the scene.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb confirmed the suspect, a 40-year-old man, acted alone. "He is deceased," she stated. "No one else is outstanding."
Police have not identified a motive for the attack. Among the injured are a small child and several people in critical condition.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the violence "beyond words or understanding." The mall remains closed as the investigation continues.
