20,000 Masks Distributed in South Kalimantan as Wildfire Smoke Blankets Region

**BANJARMASIN, Indonesia** – South Kalimantan’s Environment Agency and the local chapter of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) have distributed 20,000 masks to residents as wildfires continue to produce hazardous smoke across the province. The masks were handed out to communities most affected by the dense haze, which has worsened air quality in several districts. The initiative aims to protect residents from respiratory irritation caused by prolonged exposure to smoke particles. Officials said the distribution is part of an ongoing response to the seasonal fires, which are often triggered by land clearing and dry weather conditions. The masks are being prioritized for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
