A World War II bomber and its crew have been found, solving an 80-year mystery for the Australian Defence Force.
The aircraft, a Beaufort bomber, disappeared on a night mission over Papua New Guinea in 1943. Its four crew members were declared missing.
A private research group discovered the wreckage. The difficult terrain had kept the site hidden for decades.
The discovery allows the Australian Defence Force to formally close its historical records on the case. Officials say it also brings long-awaited answers to the families of the lost airmen.
