GOTHENBURG – Sweden’s women’s volleyball team saw their two-match winning streak end on Tuesday, falling 3–0 to European Championship favorites Italy.
The result was expected, but the Swedes did not go quietly. In one set, they pushed the world’s top-ranked team to the limit, briefly threatening an upset before Italy regained control.
Despite the loss, the performance offered a bright spot for the home side, who showed they can compete with the continent’s best – even if only for a short stretch.
