Southern Chinese Flock North, Ski Resorts See 40% Surge
A major shift in winter travel is underway in China. As the holiday season approaches, residents from the country's warmer southern regions are heading north in large numbers, fueling a boom for ski resorts. The trend is providing a welcome boost to airlines and resort operators. Since the ski season began on November 15, one major destination has seen explosive growth. The Changbai Beautiful China Resort in Jilin province has already welcomed over 110,000 visitors. This marks a nearly 40 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The resort is owned by the state-run China Green Development Group. Industry analysts note that the demand for winter sports continues to grow following the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The "reverse migration" for snow holidays is turning northern cold spots into hot tourism tickets.
