German police have arrested five men suspected of planning an Islamist vehicle attack on a Christmas market. Authorities announced the detentions on Saturday.
The suspects—one Egyptian, three Moroccans, and one Syrian—were arrested on Friday. Police said the group planned to use a vehicle to ram into crowds at a market in southern Bavaria.
Germany has been on high alert during the holiday season. Last year, a deadly car-ramming attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg shocked the country.
