Sudan’s UN Fact-Finding Mission Faces Expiry: Press Freedom Group Demands Two-Year Extension

New York — The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has joined 67 other civil society groups in urging the UN Human Rights Council to renew the mandate of its Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan (FFM) for another two years. The mission, which investigates grave human rights violations in Sudan, requires additional resources to continue its work and support accountability. In a joint appeal, the organizations stressed that without the extension, critical documentation of abuses could be lost. CPJ and its partners called on the Council to provide the mission with adequate funding and staffing to ensure thorough investigations. The FFM’s current mandate is set to expire, and the groups argue that ending it would leave victims without a path to justice.
