Israeli Opposition Slams Netanyahu: “Reckless and Stupid” Over Turkey Tensions

Israeli opposition leaders have sharply criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government over its escalating confrontation with Türkiye, warning that recent actions risk dragging the country into an unnecessary conflict. Yair Lapid, head of the opposition, attacked the government’s overall policy toward Ankara, saying it is damaging Israel’s interests. Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak went further, accusing Netanyahu of behaving in a “reckless and stupid” manner. The criticism follows a controversial Israeli military strike in Syria, near the Turkish border, which targeted a site linked to Iran-backed forces. Opposition lawmaker Yair Golan condemned the operation, known as the “Abu Zuhur” attack, calling it a “dangerous and provocative step” that pushes Israel toward a direct clash with Türkiye. Golan said the move was unnecessary and risked inflaming an already tense regional situation. The remarks highlight growing domestic unease over Netanyahu’s handling of foreign policy, especially as Ankara and Jerusalem trade threats over Syria and regional influence.
