After more than two years of striking Israel’s enemies across the Middle East, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is now targeting a new perceived threat: Turkey.
On Tuesday, Israeli warplanes bombed a base in northern Syria, just a short drive from the Turkish border. Netanyahu said Turkey was trying to build a military presence there. He added that after Turkey ignored Israel’s warnings, “We made sure they understood it more clearly.”
The move comes as Netanyahu faces a tough re-election fight ahead of the October 27 vote.
