Israeli forces killed a senior Hamas weapons commander in an airstrike on Saturday. The military identified the target as Raad Saad, head of weapons manufacturing for Hamas's armed wing.
The strike hit the Tel al-Hawa area, southwest of Gaza City. Palestinian civil defense and medical sources in the Hamas-run territory reported five people killed.
The Israeli army stated it conducted only one strike in that area. It said the operation successfully eliminated the senior Hamas figure.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the strike. They said operations against Hamas leadership will continue.
