Trump: No Extension of US-Iran Ceasefire

President Donald Trump says the United States does not want to extend the ceasefire with Iran, according to Reuters. The two countries agreed to a temporary ceasefire in June. That agreement, known as a “statement of intent,” was meant to create time for negotiations on a more permanent deal. On Monday, Trump also said he does not believe Iran is willing to reach “the kind of agreement that I think is necessary.” Although the ceasefire took effect in June, both the US and Iran have carried out several attacks during that period. One of the main points of tension between the two nations has been the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large share of the world’s oil production is transported.
