The U.S. Department of Defense has announced the deaths of two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter in Syria. A third service member was also wounded.
The attack occurred on Saturday. Officials described it as an ambush but did not provide the exact location.
In a statement, the Pentagon linked the assault to ISIS. The militant group, also known as the Islamic State, once controlled large parts of Syria and Iraq.
The interpreter was an American citizen. The identities of those killed are being withheld until their families are notified.
This incident marks a rare case of U.S. combat fatalities in Syria in recent months. Approximately 900 U.S. troops remain in the country for counter-terrorism operations.
