A Ukrainian man has been arrested in Croatia in connection with the 2022 explosions that damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines, German authorities confirmed.
The suspect is a diver, and Berlin has requested his extradition to Germany for the investigation.
The undersea blasts occurred in September 2022, only months after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The explosions damaged three of the four pipelines built to carry Russian fossil gas to Germany beneath the Baltic Sea.
Germany is now seeking to bring the suspect to trial over the sabotage, which disrupted energy supplies across Europe.
The arrest marks a significant step in a case that has remained shrouded in mystery since the attack.
