Ivan Urgant was Russia's most popular television host. His nightly show, a mix of comedy and music, drew millions of viewers. He was considered unstoppable.
That changed in February 2022. After President Vladimir V. Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine, Urgant posted a simple message on social media. It read: "Fear and pain. No to war."
His show was immediately removed from the broadcast schedule. Within months, Urgant and his family left Russia. He has not returned.
