Police in Botswana have confirmed the death of a 12-year-old boy after a crocodile attack. The announcement follows DNA test results on human remains found last week.
The child was attacked and dragged into the Thamalakane River near Maun. A search operation located bones along the riverbank on Saturday.
Maun Police Superintendent Joseph Lepodise said forensic tests, including a post-mortem, provided conclusive proof. The results show the remains belong to the missing boy.
Crocodile attacks are a known hazard in northern Botswana's river systems. The confirmation brings a tragic end to the search for the child.
