Turkey’s top court rules punishing teachers for union-backed protest violates rights

Turkey’s Constitutional Court has ruled that disciplinary penalties given to teachers who refused to perform lunchtime supervisory duties violated their right to union activity. The decision follows a case brought by the education union Eğitim Sen. The court found that the teachers’ action, taken in line with the union’s directive, was a legitimate form of collective protest, and the resulting punishments were therefore unlawful.
