Court Blocks Education Board's Rejection of Teacher's Graduate Study Request

MARDİN, Turkey — A local administrative court has suspended a decision by the Midyat District Education Directorate that blocked a school counselor from adjusting her teaching schedule to continue her graduate studies. The Mardin 2nd Administrative Court ruled on Tuesday that the education directorate failed to provide a concrete justification for rejecting the teacher's request to reorganize her class timetable. The counselor, who works as a guidance teacher in Midyat, a district in the southeastern Mardin province, had asked the directorate to rearrange her course hours so she could attend postgraduate classes. The directorate refused. In its ruling, the court stated that the rejection was invalid because the education authority did not cite specific reasons for the denial. The court ordered the decision to be suspended, meaning the teacher's request must be reconsidered. The ruling is a legal setback for the district education office and allows the teacher to proceed with her academic work while the case continues.
