UN Reports Near-Record Displacement of Palestinians in West Bank

This figure marks the second-highest annual total since the UN began detailed records in 2009. The displacement is primarily attributed to violence and intimidation by Israeli settlers, who are civilians living in communities considered illegal under international law. The UN office monitors incidents that make areas unsafe for Palestinian residents, forcing them to leave their homes. These include direct attacks, threats, and property destruction. The warning highlights a sharp increase in such displacements. It points to a deteriorating security situation for Palestinian communities in the occupied territory. The data covers January 1 to December 16 of this year. The highest annual number recorded was 1,200 people displaced in 2022.
