A new legal development in Turkey may lead to the release of Selahattin Demirtaş, the jailed former co-leader of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). According to his lawyer, Mahsuni Karaman, the current detention is based solely on a specific article of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK 302), which concerns crimes against the state. Karaman stated that once the new regulation takes effect, there is no legal obstacle to Demirtaş and his associates being released. The lawyer’s remarks suggest that the upcoming legislative change will directly affect their cases, potentially ending their imprisonment.
