Ukraine’s New $27 Drone Catches Enemy Drones Mid-Air

Ukraine’s defense firm WINFLY has unveiled a new interceptor drone called the Spider. Unlike traditional interceptors that ram into their targets, the Spider uses a net-launcher to capture enemy drones in flight. Once the Spider nets its target, it flies back to its operator with the captured drone in tow. The company says the cost of the net is just $27, making it a low-cost way to take down more expensive enemy equipment. The Spider is designed to be reusable. After each capture, it can be prepared for another mission. This marks a shift from “kamikaze” drones that are destroyed on impact. The system aims to give Ukrainian forces a cheaper and more sustainable option for countering Russian reconnaissance and attack drones. WINFLY has not yet released full details on the Spider’s range or speed, but the company says it is already testing the system in operational conditions.
