Hong Kong workers lead the world in AI adoption—and fear its cost.

More than 70 per cent of working professionals in Hong Kong use artificial intelligence tools on a daily or weekly basis—more than double the global average, a new survey shows. The study, conducted by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), polled 3,722 working professionals in the city between March and April this year. Over 60 per cent of respondents were aged between 30 and 49. While AI use is widespread, the survey also found that junior staff are more likely to worry about losing their jobs to the technology. This anxiety is deeper among younger, less senior workers, even as they rely on AI tools for routine tasks. The findings highlight a growing gap: senior professionals see AI as a productivity boost, but for many junior employees, it is a source of uncertainty. Experts say the results point to an urgent need for clearer workplace training and career support as AI becomes a standard part of daily operations in Hong Kong’s offices.
