Turkey Offers to Host Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks, Proposes Limited Ceasefire
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has told Russia's Vladimir Putin that Turkey is ready to host peace talks to end the war in Ukraine. In a phone call, Erdogan suggested that a limited ceasefire could be a first step. He said this pause in fighting should focus on protecting key infrastructure like energy facilities and ports. Turkey has maintained relations with both Russia and Ukraine since the war began. It previously helped negotiate a deal to allow grain exports from Ukrainian ports. Erdogan has repeatedly positioned Turkey as a potential mediator between the two sides. The call did not produce any immediate agreement. The Kremlin's readout said Putin reiterated Russia's well-known position, while thanking Turkey for its mediation efforts.
